Manhood and nationalism, Samchung

2009.03.21 19:24

Lyrical themes found in Korean music is full of love and sadness, which makes some metalhead wanna-bes feel upset and disgusted. However, these scruffy guys are really something and tried something weird. That is, they write lyrics that are manly and patriotic. Some metalheads squeeze their tear out after listening to there albums. (fags.. but as a man I somewhat sympathise with them)

Samchung refers to Samchung Gyoyookdae,(hangul 삼청 교육대) in which military coups led by Jeon Du Hwan(hangul 전두환), in 1980s, imprisoned gangsters and tried to brainwash them using utter violence. 60 000 innocent people were arrested without a warranty and casualties are reportedly over 3000. Some people argue, therefore, Samchung is too Rightist.

They are a hardcore band, often narrowly defined as 'oldskul hardcore.' They have been active in Korean underground music scene since 1997, and are pros. In addition to that, lyrical theme is stunning enough to appeal to masculinity.
