Is 'Show Me Your Genitals' sexist rubbish?

2009.07.18 01:10

Youtube is one of the most effective ways of revealing yourself to the world. Anyone can post videos and let out what they are, what they think or want. Some of the people using Youtube get popular by their video and get known by others, just like Funtwo(Jeong-Hyun Lim) who is so-called 'The Internet Guitar Magician'.

Jon Lajoie leaning on his sexy car

A couple of days ago, I visited a channel of a guy whose user name was jonlajoie. He is a comedian and he makes short comedy scatches and songs.

It all started with a song that i got into. I was playing Counter-Strike Source with my friend a few days ago. As you know, players can use microphone to communicate with one another in game, and there are always some faggots who spam by putting on random music or stupid gibberish. As usual, someone was spamming and it sounded like, "Show me your genitals, genitals". I was like.. 'what the fuck? thats funny.' It was only until I heard that phrase several times more when I realised it is not actually someone talking, but a song. Several days later, when I was surfing the Internet, the song suddenly came up on my head. I searched the phrase on the Youtube and I faced a marvellous creation.

I found the song very entertaining and well-made from musical point of view. However, I couldn't help but question the sexist side of the song. In fact, the lyrics are damn straightforward,(e.g. "women are stupid and I don't respect them") and anyone can notice the song is sexist. Despite that fact, I think this song is not a rubbish.

Firstly, just because the song's theme is not appropriate for the majority, that does not make the song rubbish. I do not side with the sexist movements, however, I must say that musical value of the song should be respected. For example, Slayer's shredding song, 'Angel of Death', vurgarly displays the Nazi's holocaust against the Jews. Even though the song is criticised often for the lyrical themes, it is considered as one of the Slayer's best songs.

Secondly, the song and the video is hilarious. The guy moves rather robotronic when he delivers the lyrics and it seems really funny. The rhymes and the beats are really well made in a way that it makes people follow the lyrics. Above all, the guy maintains the same face from the beginning to the end, even when he talks about intense sexist things, which is funny.

Third, there is a Facebook group that is called "Show me your Genitals" and there are many women fans. It means even though women find sexist themes by which they are offended, they still find this song intersting for the two reasons above.

I will not link the video in this post as some people might find it offensive. "Show Me Your Genitals" are actually a series, as the second edition has been made. The songs are even available on iTunes.
