Buddhist metal band, perhaps?

2011.05.28 15:41

By and large, religions are rare but nonetheless existant in today's metal music scene. For instance, the 6-piece metalcore band, The Devil Wears Prada, spreads anti-materialistic and topics related to the teaching of Christianity through their lyrics. Although people need not be a Christian to listen to the band, listeners often interpret their lyrics in their own way, and hence understand the religion better.

On the contrary, I have never been able to find a Buddhist metal band that preaches Buddhist lessons. Buddhism is no longer an exotic and foreign religion to the Westerners; its teaching has grown popular in worldwide scope. In the light of that, Buddhist metal band would bring this famous yet newly spread religion a boost, also wrighting a cultural impact.

The fact that life is an endless supply of pain and pain is caused by desire, to me, seems perfectly adoptable into a great metal lyrics and themes.

In addition, there lies a fascinating contrary between the tough nature of metal music and the harmonious Buddhist teaching represented by Buddha's pricelessly serene facial expression. More or less, the great music is written when different elements are coalesced, just like melodic death metal incorporated beautiful harmony with discord of the metal sound. Therefore I truly am looking forward to listening to or composing some Buddhist metal materials.
